WE SUPPLY QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGES for MOLTEN METAL
FILTER CARTRIDGES by BLASCH PRECISION CERAMICS (Pat. Pending)
SCRAP CASTINGS COST AS MUCH TO MAKE AS GOOD ONES. There is an answer to oxide and other inclusion flaws in your high quality castings that subtract directly from your profits and jeopardize your customer relationships.
QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGES can be used in series with course, medium, and fine filters for ultra clean metal and in parallel for large volume applications.
QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGES can be changed without draining the filter box and without allowing unfiltered metal to pass downstream. Chipping away surface oxides and corundum to change a filter is a thing of the past. All of the contaminants remain trapped in the filter cartridge with no chance of escape. A new preheated filter cartridge can be inserted and the process may then be continued.
When replacing a filter for molten metal it is necessary to pre-heat the filter to enable the filter to prime (allow metal to flow through the filter without freezing), and to avoid cracking the filter from thermal shock.
Improved priming is accomplished with our QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGE. Liquid aluminum forms an aluminum-oxide skin rapidly when exposed to atmosphere. Increased temperature speeds up this chemical process. Liquid aluminum flows freely through small pores, however, aluminum oxide becomes quite viscous and does not flow freely through small pores. In typical filter start-up, the filter must be super heated to ensure that the aluminum does not freeze when it contacts the filter. In the typical filter, the liquid aluminum picks up oxygen from the hot atmosphere in the pores of the filter as it penetrates the filter pores and continues to pick up more and more oxygen as it flows through the pores and very often some portions of a typical filter will not prime as a result of the aluminum-oxide in small pores. Oxide plugging and freezing are common problems in the industry that we have addressed.
QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGES have the ability to transport and insert into molten aluminum a filter that has been purged of oxygen and kept hot. The filter is contained in a protection tube and the entire cartridge is then preheated in a small portable oxygen free electric furnace. The protection tube with the filter inside can then be quickly inserted in the melt with little or no temperature loss or oxygen contamination.
QUICK-CHANGE FILTER CARTRIDGES are ideal in holding furnaces that are replenished by portable ladles. Molten aluminum can be poured directly into the open top of the protection tube and all contaminants generated by the pouring operation and those already contained in the ladle are filtered out. As in the above applications, the filter cartridge can be easily changed without chipping away surface oxides or corundum and without losing contaminates back into the furnace.
